Our Technology

VerdErg Pipe Technology has developed an innovative non-destructive ring testing and statistical analysis technology for submarine pipelines. It provides an improved understanding of a pipeline’s ultimate resistance capacity to external hydrostatic pressure.

The technology measures the Ultimate Hydrostatic Buckling Collapse Strength of a subsea pipe joint by compression collapse testing a short ring cut from each individual pipe end during manufacture, leaving the joint available for project use.

Successfully type approved by DNV, this testing service is available worldwide from DNV–approved laboratories.

Benefits

Benefits from our test method

Auditable calculation of Minimum Collapse Depth

A modern Quality Control function is introduced into the manufacturing process through quantification of the Limit State load factor of the entire pipeline. This provides a demonstrably safe, auditable pipeline.

Reduced manufacturing costs

By reducing the wall thickness to a measured safe level, the total volume and cost of steel required is reduced.

Improved competitor bidding

Lower wall thickness means more pipe mills worldwide can pre-qualify for deep water projects. Very few mills have the heaviest hydraulic pipe-bending presses needed to provide the wall thickness margin mandated by the current design procedure.

Reduced installation costs

Lighter weight, thinner wall pipe can be laid by smaller installation vessels.

Reduced risk of schedule delay

Near real-time testing of pipe joint strength during manufacture gives early detection of defective joints. This reduces the risk of quarantining large inventories, which can delay project progress.
